My First Activity

R1 Discover activities are interactive, self-guided exercises built around the R1 topic models. This article covers the activity types you'll encounter and the two ways to start an activity.

R1 Discover activity types

Within a topic, activities are grouped under Activities and Knowledge Checks headings. The main activity types are:

  • Explore activities — an interactive overview of an R1 topic model. Explore activities give you a high-level understanding of the model and encourage you to reflect on your own experiences as they relate to it.
  • Identify activities — a deeper journey of self-discovery within a topic. Identify activities use interactive card-sorting exercises to help you reflect on where you are inside the topic model and give you vocabulary to better express yourself.
  • Knowledge checks — short question-based checks that measure your understanding of a topic model. Your score and a report are available when you finish, and you can retake a knowledge check to reinforce what you've learned.

Starting an activity from the home dashboard

The home dashboard is the first page you see after signing in.

The home dashboard activity widget with the Explore Topics tab selected, showing the search box and the color-coded topic list used to find and start an activity

  1. Find the Start an Activity widget. If you have engagements assigned, it appears as the Explore Topics tab of the My Engagements widget — select that tab to see your topics.
  2. Browse the color-coded topic list, or type in the search box to filter by topic or activity name.
  3. Click a topic to expand it and reveal its activities.
  4. Click the Start Activity play button next to the activity you want. If you belong to more than one program, choose the program from the dropdown first.

Starting an activity from the My Topics page

The My Topics page is the full resource library — every topic available to you, with its activities, videos, worksheets, and other supporting content.

  1. In the left navigation, under My Resources, click My Topics.
  2. Browse the topic list, or use the Search Topic OR Activity box to filter it.
  3. Click a topic to expand it and reveal its activities.
  4. Click the Start Activity play button next to the activity you want. If you belong to more than one program, choose the program from the dropdown first.

Good to know

  • The checkmark to the left of each activity name shows whether you've completed it. It appears in the topic's color once completed — hover over it to see how many times you've completed the activity and when you last did. A gray checkmark means you haven't completed it yet.
  • Topics that are not part of your program appear grayed out — you can see their activities but can't start them.
  • Depending on your role and your organization's license, some activities or buttons may be hidden or locked.
